• Missouri Storm Victims Eligible For IRS Disaster Relief

Victims of severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding that began on December 23, 2015, in parts of Missouri may qualify for tax relief from the IRS. Individuals who reside or have a business in specified counties declared by the president to be federal disaster areas, may qualify for tax relief. In addition, all workers assisting the relief activities who are affiliated with a recognized government or philanthropic organization also qualify for relief.

The tax relief postpones various tax filing and payment deadlines that occurred starting on December 23, 2015. Affected individuals and businesses will have until May 16, 2016, to file their returns and pay any taxes due. This includes 2015 income tax returns normally due on April 18. It also includes the January 15 and April 18 deadlines for making quarterly estimated tax payments. A variety of business tax deadlines are also affected.
